Mattress Pricing Guide- Cost of making a mattress!
Mattress pricing is directly related to the components used in the construction of the product! Inexpensive components equals cheaper mattress! More expensive components used in building a mattress will reflect a more comfortable and supportive sleep system. There are many mattress companies, both local and national. They all buy their components from a few main suppliers. How a mattress is built. This is how a basic innerspring is built: (Mattress Pricing)- Choose a coil system type
- Lay foam on top
- Add fire resistant upholstery
- Wrap and sew (ticking)
Obviously, this is a very simplistic overview. But the point is, a mattress's quality is the sum of it's components! If you use an inexpensive (weak) coil system, minimal amount of basic foam, fire resistant upholstery (required) and course ticking, you could price a twin mattress at $99.00. If on the other hand, you use a more durable core, add more foam and use nicer ticking, the price will go up accordingly. Yet, consumers see one twin mattress at $99.00 and the other at $199 and assume the cheaper one is the better deal! Mattresses are made from natural resources, petroleum based foam, wood, steel and varying textile fabrics that are all subject to supply and demand. Manufacturers change mattress models each year and try to project their cost and are subject to volatile natural resources pricing. The good news is that these products are American Made generally in your region of the country. This helps support your local and national economy!
Mattress Pricing Locally-Where to In Your Area! Guide to Shopping Locally.
Shopping For A Mattress-Let the Confusion Begin!
You have decided that you need a new mattress! It is hard to resist looking at newspaper ads and inserts, seeing all the different sales. Is it a good sale? Should I run out and buy it immediately? But wait! Here is another store with mattresses on sale. Their Queen EuroTop mattress is cheaper! I don’t want to pay more than I have to. And then there is another store with another sale. Mattress Pricing: Comparison Shopping. If you go to 3 different stores in your area, all selling a “Serta Perfect Sleeper” for an example, you will not find the same model names to compare pricing to. Retail Stores want Serta to name beds in their lineup exclusively for their store. A mattress at one store might be called the “Beauty” while a same or very similar bed at another store might be called the “Lovely”. They can be built the same, but have different color and ticking on the outside. The key here is that the two stores buy the mattresses at very near the same cost. Retailers then display the mattress at a “Suggested Retail Price” and then reduce it to “Their Sales Price”. Keep in mind that retailers have to set a profit margin to operate their store. Most stores operate at or near the same profit margin (except Sam’s Club and CostCo). So, how is this helpful for you? Most shoppers worry whether they are getting the best price or not. You can waste more money in gasoline going from store to store trying to determine which mattress buy is the best. Usually this leads more confusion and frustration! Your best bet is going to one store that has the biggest selection of mattress! The more mattresses to chose from, the more price points selection there will be.
Don’t Sell Yourself short!
Mattress Pricing:When shopping for a mattress, try to look beyond the initial cost. Many people think that spending $1500 is a lot of money (and I am not saying that it isn't) but what you are really spending is $1500 on 10 years of comfort! Try thinking about after the first year on your mattress. Your cost for comfortable sleep equals $150 for 365 nights of sleep! That's $12.50 a month. How much did you spend on your utility bills last year to keep your house warm in the winter and cool in the summer? How much do you spend a month for Cable/Satellite TV? Remember, you probably spend 6 to 8 hours nightly on your mattress. My intention is not to say that you need to buy the most expensive mattress available. Instead, when you are lying (testing) on a mattress, consider the mattress price on a yearly basis. A mattress's price is important, but comfort is all important! Again, you don't need to buy the most expensive there is (that might not even the most comfortable for you), but buy the best mattress you can afford. Don't scrimp on 3650 (10 years) nights of sleep! Invest in your health and well being.
